1997

Project-led foundation

Signify established a specification-focused operating model for commercial indoor lighting. The early discipline was straightforward: record the application before discussing a fixture, and keep optical intent connected to installation constraints.

2008

Digital photometric workflow

IES and LDT files became part of the normal design exchange. That shift made distribution assumptions more visible, although a calculation remained only as reliable as the room geometry, reflectance and maintenance inputs behind it.

2017

Controls enter the luminaire schedule

Driver interfaces, occupancy sensing and daylight harvesting moved into earlier reviews. The change reduced ambiguity between the fixture schedule and the controls package, especially where DALI-2 addressing or 0-10V zoning affected commissioning.

2024

Resource traceability

Documentation was reorganized around product family, optic, output and regional configuration. This makes it easier to distinguish a representative file from evidence applicable to the exact proposed assembly.

Serviceability is a design input

Integrated construction can reduce size and improve thermal coupling, while replaceable drivers or light engines can simplify maintenance. Neither route is universally preferable. We document access, component architecture and rated conditions so a facility team can compare initial form factor with the likely service plan.

Rated L70 lifetime depends on thermal management and the test basis used for LM-80 and TM-21 projections. It should not be read as a promise that every installation reaches the same operating hours. Ambient temperature, switching cycles, driver stress and cleaning conditions remain part of the real system boundary.

UL references apply to confirmed North American configurations; CE and RoHS documentation applies to relevant European product scope. Availability must be checked against the selected family and market.
